Overhead Door™ garage doors were used throughout the second season of popular home restoration show Bargain Mansions that aired on DIY Network and HGTV
Home restoration expert Tamara Day came back with the second season of Bargain Mansions on DIY Network and HGTV to transform Kansas City’s neglected houses with the help of the Overhead Door™ Brand. With each episode, you follow Tamara and her team overcome obstacles and create inspiring solutions with the support of our local distibutor, Overhead Door Company of Kansas City™.
The Cottage House
“Cottage House”- Courtyard Collection® 167T
The season kicked off with the beautiful “Cottage House”, featuring carriage house style garage doors Model 167T from the Courtyard Collection®. In this project, Tamara focused on creating a curb appeal that would be the most beneficial to this property and its style. The original garage was repurposed into a cozy living room, and a new standalone two-car garage was built onto the back of the house to add more space. The forward-facing garage doors are made with insulated steel construction to resemble the elegant wood designs of traditional carriage house doors. The door comes in a broad selection of windows and hardware options to further enhance the architectural beauty of any home.
The Sunset House
“Sunset House”- Signature Carriage® Wood 580B Buchanan
According to Tamara’s Growing Days blog, the “Sunset House” was her fairytale project! “I fell in love with it because it reminded me of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” Tamara said.
This house’s unique style and property layout needed a garage door which would accentuate its exceptional look. With beautiful vaulted ceilings and steel-lead glass windows, this house showcased its character in every corner and needed the culminating touch in the form of a new garage door.
The Signature® Carriage Collection Model 580 wood garage doors in the shade Western Red Cedar were a perfect complement to this Scottish-style house. The raw finish of these wood doors stands out and adds to its authenticity. This collection combines technical know-how with expert Amish craftsmanship. The door merges the classic swing-open appearance and detailing of carriage house wood doors with the convenience of standard sectional garage doors.
The Jefferson House
“Jefferson House”- Courtyard Collection® Model 167T
Homes aren’t just structures that stand on the street; they tell the stories of those around them. For the “Jefferson House” project, Tamara was inspired by the man who previously owned and lived in the house, Mr. Jefferson. Mr. Jefferson was a great man, loved by his neighbors, thus the side street was named after him, but after he passed away the house has stayed vacant for the last 10-15 years.
Because the home wasn’t maintained properly, Tamara and her team put more work than previously expected into the house and encountered multiple renovating difficulties such as sewer issues that took up a large chunk of the budget. The house has a stand-alone garage featuring a Courtyard Collection® Model 167T in all black color with Wyndbridge clear glass windows, traditional hammertone hinges and two small spear handles. The Courtyard Collection® garage doors are made with an insulated steel construction and fashioned to resemble the elegant wood designs of traditional carriage house doors with an R-value of up to 12.7. The wood grain textured trim boards are resistant to dents and the elements.
The Belinder House
“Belinder House” – Carriage House Collection Model 307
“Belinder House”- the best for the last! The last episode of the second season of Bargain Mansions made for our favorite renovation because of the complete exterior transformation! With the garage facing the back side of the house, it made for a more private, safer space for a family with kids who want to play on a driveway.
The garage doors featured in “Belinder House” are the Carriage House Collection Model 307 in clay stain color with 12 square single clear glass windows. The combination of these doors’ distinctive carriage house design and superior insulated steel construction gives these doors exceptional thermal performance and durability. Carriage House garage doors are available in a wide array of stained and painted finishes as well as wood-grain textures, capturing the look of a classic carriage house door.
